At a special event in Tokyo, company bosses revealed what they are officially calling the NGP or Next Generation Portable.
There were no details on how much it is likely to cost but it is expected to be out sometime towards the end of 2011.
The NGP is being launched into an increasingly competitive market with Nintendo's 3DS out soon and a boom in mobile gaming on smartphones.

 Initial Specs:
  • CPU: TBD
  • RAM: TBD
  • Storage: Unidentified “new media” for games, on-board Flash storage
  • Display: 5 inch OLED with 960 x 544 resolution
  • Wireless: WiFi, 3G, GPS
  • Inputs: Touchscreen, touch sensitive back panel, D-pad, L/R shoulder buttons, standard PlayStation buttons
  • PSX games and PSP will be supported, PS2? (Not confirmed at this stage)
  • Dual analog sticks
  • Tilt-sensitive SIXAXIS controls
Update #2 Photo of the PSP2 added, it has enough power to play Uncharted. The new PSP2 is in the PSP-1000 form factor, not a PSP Go style (Better this way)
